Toll By-Pass Call Centers
Typically, you run a Gateway in the calling areas you wish to reach (each Gateway terminates calls to its local calling area). However, long distance rates vary from country to country, so it may be advantageous for you to have one or more of your Gateways terminate calls to areas where you don't have a Gateway operating. [This requires the Gateway to direct dial the number out over its phone lines, so long distance charges will apply.]
For example, it may cost $1 a minute to call from Country A to Country B, but only 40 cents a minute to call Country B from Country C. You set up a Gateway in Country C. Your other Gateways route (Country B) calls to the Country C Gateway (this would be over the IP network, so NO long distance charges would apply). Then, the Country C Gateway terminates the call by direct dialing to Country B. While you are still required to pay long distance charges (to cover the PSTN call from Country C to Country B), you have reduced your long distance rates by 60 cents a minute.
The Gateway is capable of dialing ANY number (long distance or local). Administrators are responsible for configuring which phone numbers can be terminated through a Gateway.
All phone lines connected to the Gateway will be used for inbound, outbound, voice and fax calls. You do not have to designate the type of traffic for which each line will be used. ctvoice determines the type of call and will send the voice or fax data accordingly.
To make a voice or fax call, users simply call (via PSTN or PBX lines) into a Gateway. The system will prompt them for the number they wish to call. The number is entered the same as if dialing the number directly [i.e., include the international or national dialing prefix, followed by the country code (if applicable), area code and phone number]. When dialing fax numbers, with Version 2.0, the user has to enter an asterisk (*) following the number, ctvoice does the rest.
